Course Syllabus for Kindergarten

Parent conferences can be held on Tuesdays or Thursdays 2:15-2:45 pm
Mathematics Course Description: Student will learn basic Reading and Writing skills in accordance with state standards.
Reading/Language Arts Course Description: Student will learn basic Mathematics skills including number sense, geometric shapes, addition, subtraction, measurement and classification, using hands-on activities.
Science Course Description: Student will learn basic Science skills in accordance with state standards.
Social Studies Course Description: Student will learn basic Social Studies skills in accordance with state standards.
Materials: Primary notebook, pencils, crayons, scissors, glue, among others, as requested.
Attendance/Tardies: Tardy students must report to the office for a class pass. Absent students are to present documentation for absence upon returning to class. If appropriate documentation is presented, students will be given assignments missed during their absence. Please include student’s name, ID number and date of absence on all notes and documentation.
Grading criteria: Test = 50%; class work = 20%; participation = 10%; journal = 10%; home learning 10%.
Grade scale: E: Outstanding progress ------------------------- 90% - 100%
G: Above average progress --------------------- 80% - 89%
S: Average progress -------------------------------- 70% - 79%
M: Lowest acceptable progress --------------- 60% - 69%
U: Failure ------------------------------------------------- 0% - 59%
Assessments: Weekly assessments will be given on Fridays unless otherwise noted.
Home learning: All home learning packets given at the beginning of the week are due the beginning of the following week. Given on Monday and returned the following Monday.
Kindergarten class rules: 1. We listen to each other.
2. Hands are for helping, not hurting.
3. We use good manners.
4. We care about each other’s feelings.
5. We are responsible for what we say and do.
Conduct policy: Classroom rules must be followed at all times. If a student is not following the rules, the teacher will give a verbal warning on the first offense. If a second offense occurs, behavior card will be flipped to yellow and the student will not be able to play in the playground for five minutes. If a third offense occurs, behavior card will be flipped to red and the child will not be able to play in the playground. A fourth offense will involve a note or phone call to the parents, and possible parent conference. If disciplinary problems continue, the student will be referred to an Administrator and a Student Case Management Form will be made for the child.
